I am Carter Canastra, a 16 year old junior in high school, and also a level 10 gymnast and varsity diver. These two sports have brought me a tremendous amount experience that has helped me prosper into who I am today. Through this I have developed a strong character and a desire to push forward the good I see in the world. I also have two younger siblings, Maddie and Quentin, who have joined me as a Model Ambassador. I am happy that we can share this initaitve together and bring such an amazing community together.
This will be my 3rd time walking the runway for NAMI Off the Mask. I have volunteered with NAMI Syracuse for many of their outreach programs and fundraisers in the past, and I believe in NAMI's mission to end stigma and support mental health awareness and healing.
As a High School student and amateur athlete I see the struggles of many of my peers in dealing with the pressures of school, in competitions, with trying to fit in social circles, and with teen age life in general. I take pride in being a safe and reliable person to those around me, offering a non-judgmental and emphatic ear to anyone in need, while also championing NAMI's message of stopping the stigma while promoting mental health awareness, healing, and recovery.
