My name is Alÿcia Bacon, and I hold an MA in Africana Studies and a BA in Philosophy and Theatre. My area expertise includes Ancient African and African American history and philosophy, Civil Rights & Abolition in the United States, Critical Race Theory, Movement, Acting Shakespeare, Theatre of the Oppressed, Organizing for social, legislative, & philanthropic change.
As an educator, organizer & activist, I love to incorporate innovative approaches to climate justice and social change. My academic prowess is matched by a rich background in leadership roles, including internships and employment at prestigious organizations like Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, Mothers Out Front, The Adirondack Council, The University at Albany, NYU, Goldman Sachs and The Sanctuary for Independent Media in addition to my own independent creative consultation and writing business, The Modern Scrybe.
As a seasoned storyteller and advocate for justice and belonging, I have crafted impactful curricula, facilitated professional training, and led public actions with a focus on developing future leaders. My engaging teaching style, informed by my experiences in activism and the arts, makes me a compelling lecturer, dedicated to inspiring my students to drive societal and personal transformation.
In my spare time I enjoy creative writing, martial arts, photography, and spending time with my puppy Anubis and bunny Anarchy.
I've struggled with depression my whole life as well as mental health stigma. In my community, getting help was looked down on. I've also have faced intergenerational trauma but I've never let these experiences hold me back.
I love the way all the models shine as we raise money for a great cause and strut our stuff on the catwalk. Its a great opportunity to be part of community and NAMI is an improtant organization doing good work.
