My name is Monet Furze! I am a teacher in the Albany community that caters to Black & Brown children. I recently got married to the love of my life & am a very proud member of our LGBTQ+ community. We love to sing & cook together. I’m a dog mom & a wine lover :)
As someone who is bipolar, I want to stop stigma where it starts. I’m an active community member because of my teaching profession & I always support my students & parents to speak up if help is needed. There’s never cowardice in understanding that you may need help & advocating for yourself. There’s always someone to listen, step in & take action.
Being in Off The Mask model is magical, modeling with people from all different backgrounds really shows that you can’t judge a book by its cover. I was overjoyed when I was selected last year & the experience was so eye opening & I truly felt like people wanted to listen to our stories & make active change to mental illness stigma. I am honored to be chosen again this year as I want to focus on childrens mental health.
