Off The Mask Art and Fashion Show Fundraiser
The 2023 Off The Mask Art and Fashion Show is an awareness campaign and fundraiser to help redefine the narrative on mental health. This year's Off The Mask Art and Fashion Show Fundraiser is creatively inspired by this year's planning committee. It is thought that “we often create figurative masks to take on the outside world, so we will be pulling out that which some say we struggle with and embrace it as an embodiment of what makes us truly unique. We are not defined by our mental health struggles. We are a colorful pattern of authenticity within it.” The inspirational evening includes a cocktail party, a fashion show, a silent auction, an art show with art pieces created by local artists, music, and fun. You do not want to miss this unique celebration of authenticity!
Each year 1 in every 5 individuals in the US experience mental illness. Stigma is the leading cause for people not seeking needed mental health support and resources. Not to mention, that many individuals who are ready to engage in support many times live in areas that do not offer sufficient accessible and equitable access to mental health services. As you can see, even though we have achieved a lot in the mental health arena, our most challenging work lies ahead. By supporting the Off The Mask Art and Fashion Show Fundraiser you are spreading awareness of mental illness while helping us raise funds to support our programs and services which are provided free of cost. Your support will help us be one step closer to achieving our vision of creating a world where all those affected by mental illness can live healthy, fulfilling lives surrounded by a community that cares.
This year’s Off The Mask Art and Fashion Show Fundraiser is passionately led by Co-chairs, Christianne Smith, Rebecca Beers, and Dr. Joy Lucas, as well as their champion committee members. The event will be emceed by our beloved CBS6 meteorologist and fervent advocate, Alyssa Caroprese. Ever since she learned about NAMI-NYS and its vision to create a world where all people affected by mental illness can live healthy, fulfilling lives surrounded by a community that cares, Alyssa has made it her mission to spread the word and raise awareness. In her own words, Alyssa states, "it's important to bring attention to the systemic challenges individuals face to get the proper help." Join us on November 3, 2023, from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm at the Albany Marriott Hotel for a night full of fashion, art, advocacy, awareness, and an opportunity to celebrate our individual authenticities! Hope begins with you!
Twenty-twenty-three is the 5th annual Off The Mask Art and Fashion Show Fundraiser. For five years, NAMI-NYS along with our amazing sponsors, advocates, and volunteers have used this event as a platform to end the silence, stop the stigma, and create awareness of mental illness. In the words of one of our previous Models and founder of Off The Mask, Maya McNulty “It is important for everyone to be aware of not only your personal mental health status but also the well-being of others. If we can’t change the mental health stigma in our own community we can’t change it nationally. This is our chance to advocate for every single person struggling with mental health.”
